2004 Santa Barbara pinot gris
Pinot Gris fruit produces soft, gently perfumed wines and is much
admired for its weight and relatively low acidity. It provides a unique
function as provider of super-rich usually dry wines that can be
partnered with food without the distraction of too much aroma.
The berries are anything between greyish to brownish pink, sometimes
in the same bunch. In the vineyard the vine can easily be mistaken for
Pinot Noir for the leaves are identical and, especially late in a ripe year,
the berries can look remarkably similar.
At one time Pinot Gris habitually grew in among the Pinot Noir of many
Burgundian vineyards adding softness and sometimes acidity to its red
wine. Even today it is sanctioned as an ingredient in most of
Burgundy's red wine appellations and the occasional vine can be
found in some of the region's famous red wine vineyards. In Italy the
same varietal is grown and bottled as Pinot Grigio.
Bright and lively floral fruit aromas, refreshing pear and green apple
fruit flavors. Round mouthfeel with plenty of cool weight through the
finish.
$14.00 per bottle $168/ case.
